Keen to learn, will I fit in?

    Hi

I have been playing Wow for more than 2 years now. I live in Australia, I'm 6o, dedicated but not very quick.  I play mostly Alliance on Khaz'goroth and my best is a level 60 warrior - although my level 1 priest is MUCH richer!  He's banker for my six other characters and never moves out of Stormwind (whoops, I mean SW; lol, now you'll think I'm a noob!)  Of course I'm new at this - I'm not really very good at leveling; I'm more interested in exploring the world of Wow.  I'm in a good guild on Khaz'goroth called Searing Sun.  I respect the members, but the active ones are level 70 who are focused on somewhere called Kara, or fast leveling alts.  Despite their best intentions and friendly attitude, there doesn't seem to be a role for someone plodding slowly along like me!  Khaz'goroth is now an old realm, inflation has set in, most new characters are twinks and more than before many seem to me to to be pushy - trying to prove something.

I've tried many different races and classes on several servers.  Started with a hunter, got it to 48, but when I wanted to do more grouping I thought a tank would be a better idea, a character I could manage and contribute with.

I've been reading tanking/warrior guides a lot recently, and have been blown away at how complex it can be.  I understand most of the theory, but age and too much good wine has blasted too many brain cells - to turn understanding into action will need time, practice and chat with others who aren't too concerned about if or how quickly it all happens. When I came across your post about SA on the Blizzard WOW forums the attitude that the GAME is not the only thing to worry about appealed.

If I start up a new character on Caelestrasz I would like to learn to be a better tank - warrior preferably. Not into the Horde much, is Tauren the best race for a tanking warrior?  Also, I've only ever played PvE realms, so the idea of PvP is both interesting and challenging.

I'm retired now, and can game whenever I like, or when it suits the group. While I am quite used to managing things I have no aspirations to be a group leader, nor am I judgemental.  I prefer to be a follower.  I spend time constructing my wife's quilting studio, fishing and following the Crows in the AFL when not on the computer.

    Any room for me?

Re: Keen to learn, will I fit in?

    Greetings Macjoe,

Well you certainly meet our mature player preference. I can't promise that Caelestrasz is that much different in terms of people "rushing" to reach the carrot, much of the population are free transfers from the other oceanic servers. We are a PvE realm though, since most of the PvP is in battlegrounds or arena's these days don't see the advantages to a world PvP realm.

As guild leader I'm looking for people who are sociable, constructive and fun to game with. It looks like you'll fit in quite well there. I don't mind what class you play or how long it takes you to level it up as long as you're helping make SA a fun guild to game in. Chat with some of the online SA members and get a feel for if the guild suits you then chat to me (Hiiru/Shinrai) online.

At the same time the guild leader doesn't get any say in how a raid group (if and when one or more forms) chooses to operate. That's determined entirely by the members and leaders of those groups. Still, it's early days and a good time to polish your skills and find how best you can participate in that side of the game.

Re: Keen to learn, will I fit in?

    Hi Macjoe

Come and say hello to us.  I'm sure you will fit in just fine.

Southern Armada has been around for almost 10 years now.  Most of us are in our late thirties these days, many of us with young families.  Something we all have in common is our love of a drink, and a friendly laid back attitude.

A warrior is always a useful class to have, and there's lots of people who can offer advice.  Wow is a fairly forgiving game, so if mistakes happen, it's not the end of the world.  If you ever played EverQuest when that was first released..... now that was an unforgiving game for the first 18mths.

Look out for me on either my Hunter (Darkwulfe) or Priest (Darkstareve)

    See you soon

I can't say if there is one horde race if a better than another for a warrior, I sure they all have their merits.  I personally like orcs.  It's not easy being green.

Most of the guild prefer PVE, but some of us are often in the PVP battlegrounds.  So there is a good balance.

Re: Keen to learn, will I fit in?

    Hi Macjo,
Most of us are in it for the fun rather than the leveling. I'm taking the time to smell the flowers so to speak rather than racing to the top as well. I'm a tank, I love playing tanks so I'm happy to chat with you about it. If you aim for a pure end game raid tank then Cows probably are best as they gain a bonus to HP. But honestly I don't think it really matters. Any race is viable as an endgame tank depending on equipment and skill build. Look me up when you are on. I am always Ulaa or Cowl.

There is a couple of us teaming up pretty regularly and we are in the mid 20's so if you want, come along. Oh and there are several people in the guild who are more than interested in good Wine, several of us are amateur collectors. Zel and myself are always willing to talk more about wines :)

Re: Keen to learn, will I fit in?

    Thanks Ulaa, Wolfe.

I'll keep an eye out for you guys.  I decided to branch out, so I started a Blood Elf Paladin instead of a warrior.  Don't know if that was good in the long run, but sure enjoying a new character.  He's in Ghostlands now, I called him Macjoeb.  (And if you see a blood elf paladin bank alt in Silvermoon City called Joec, she's mine too).

Wasting brain cells on good wine did you say? What a wonderful idea! Ulaa is on the money.. always nice to have folks to talk wine stuff with.

    Speaking of which,
Zel where do you get your Penfolds? I am looking to start regularly buying 389 and was wondering where you pick yours up from. I am also going up to buy enough Pinot and Cab Sauv from Tyrells to get on their regular mailing list.

Re: Keen to learn, will I fit in?

The penfolds I've been drinking recently was from a promo at a local bottle shop back in 97 and 99. Lately I buy from auction a fair bit.
